Percentage change: the difference between recorded crimes in the latest three months and the previous three months, divided by the previous period's count.

Who appears: areas must have all six monthly records available, at least 20 recorded crimes in the previous three-month period, and a higher count in the latest period. The 12 highest percentage increases are displayed.

Important context: these are counts of recorded crimes, not crime rates adjusted for population. A percentage increase does not by itself establish that an area is more dangerous. Recorded crime can change because of reporting, policing, seasonal patterns and other factors.
